FAITH + CULTURE + VALUES

Professional Background & Experience

Delegate Geno Chiarelli has dedicated his career to serving families and strengthening communities. Before entering public service, he worked on the front lines as a substance abuse counselor and child protective services worker in Marion County, helping some of the most vulnerable in West Virginia. He earned his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University in 2018.

Today, he continues that mission in his role with business development and public affairs at WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital, building partnerships that expand access to care for kids across the region. As the representative for the 78th District, Delegate Chiarelli brings the same compassion, work ethic, and commitment to accountability that defined his professional life.

Legislative Priorities & Accomplishments

Delegate Chiarelli is focused on empowering the business community, improving quality of life in Morgantown, advancing healthcare, protecting children, and creating opportunity for families in southeast Monongalia County. His platform centers on pro-business policies, making it easier to do business in Morgantown, and fighting homelessness and drug addiction to create “cleaner streets, safer communities, better Morgantown.”

House Bill 4667:

Made it illegal for harm reduction programs to include smoking devices, ensuring these programs focus on getting people off drugs rather than providing alternate methods of use

Defended healthcare jobs in Monongalia county

Stood up for healthcare workers in Monongalia County and worked to keep quality care available for families throughout West Virginia, earning acknowledgment from the West Virginia Hospital Association.

House Bill 5188:

Allowed partial disability benefits for first responders, changing a long-standing policy by the West Virginia Municipal Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement System that only provided benefits for total disability. The partial disability benefit provides 45-percent of average full monthly compensation

“The entire point of my campaign since the very beginning has been to make my community and county a better place to live and I feel like I’ve passed some bills to do that, but the work isn’t done,” Chiarelli said.

“I think there is still a lot we need to do and I’m very much looking forward to being part of the continued progress.”
